Griseofulvin is a natural antifungal discovered in 1939 from Penicillium griseofulvum.  It is fungistatic against species causing ringworm (Microsporum, Epidermophyton, and Trichophyton).  It can bind to tubulin and interfere with mitosis.  It can induce apoptosis in human tumor cell lines, showing promise as an anti-cancer agent.  Griseofulvin is insoluble in water.
