Dichlorophen is a tenicide, most often used in the treatment of small mammals. Antifungal, antibacterial and herbicidal activity has also been reported. While dichlorophen has low toxicity to mammals, it is toxic to parasites and aquatic life.

Dichlorophen is practically insoluble in water, and only sparingly soluble in toluene. It is soluble in ethanol, methanol and organic solvents.
