Epirubicin is the 4'-epi-isomer of the antitumor agent, doxorubicin. Epirubicin acts by inhibiting topoisomerase II resulting in DNA double strand breaks. The anthracyclines also act by evicing histone from open chromatin, deregulating the transcriptome in cancer cells and organs.
